Our Get To Know Us series takes a look at the journeys of some of the Enigen team in their time here, to give you a real insight into what it’s like to work with us. Recently, our Marketing Executive Aja Cheal sat down with our Director of People & Culture Erin Shaw, who joined the team in 2016, to discuss her time at Enigen so far.
Erin: “After completing my degree in Sociology & Criminology at the University of Portsmouth, I began my career as a support worker. This role entailed providing dedicated support to both individuals and communities, as well as facilitating regular support groups. Despite the challenges that came with working in a tough environment, I found it highly rewarding.
After about 3 years I decided I needed a change, and I chose to venture into the HR and People & Culture space. This choice was driven by my genuine passion for fostering connections and collaborating with people, and here I am 13 years later still doing so! During my career in HR, I have completed my post-graduate CIPD qualification and worked in various roles in multiple sectors including travel, retail, healthcare, and of course tech.”
“I began my journey at Enigen just over 7 years ago. What initially drew me to the company was its early establishment of an internal people function. I could clearly see that our Managing Director, Alex, and the board recognised the value of people and culture, which instantly made me feel connected to the business.
I firmly believe that fostering a positive work environment contributes massively to the value of an organisation. Ensuring employees have a positive experience holds great significance to me and that’s one of the reasons I enjoy my role so much.
Another aspect of my role that I particularly enjoy is the variety. Each day presents unique challenges and experiences, ensuring that no two days are the same which keeps things interesting.”
“Enigen’s strong emphasis on mental health and well-being holds great personal significance. Simply being a part of helping to raise awareness and engaging in open conversations brings me immense satisfaction. We actively participate in various initiatives including regular Ted Talks, entering the Mind Wellbeing Index (in which we secured a Gold award!), and mental health training. Additionally, we have dedicated Mental Health and Wellbeing Champions who invest their time in acquiring techniques and advice through professional training in order to support their colleagues if needed.
The team here at Enigen is undoubtedly the highlight of my experience here. From day 1 everyone was welcoming and supportive, and throughout the 7 years I have spent here that hasn’t changed. Colleagues willingly assist one another, creating an environment where we can all thrive and excel, and the teams remarkable talent and passion for their work serves as a constant inspiration, leaving a positive influence on everyone around them.”
