Our Get To Know Us series takes a look at the journeys of some of the Enigen team in their career and their time here, to give you a real insight into what it’s like to work with us. Recently, our Marketing Executive Aja Cheal, sat down with CX Consultant, Santhanakrishnan Shanmuganathan to discuss his time at Enigen so far.
Santhanakrishnan: “I don’t have a straight answer on why I first became intrigued by technology, but I was introduced to computers at school, which was a luxury at that time. In my final years at school, we had computer labs, which made me more curious about technology. I tried to learn as much as I could from the teachers and even enrolled in a small hardware course to deepen my understanding.
I began my professional journey studying Information Technology at a University in India, which naturally led me to take a job in technology. My first technology-related role was at a consulting firm where I was trained on different types of technologies including .NET, UNIX, and primarily Java. After some time at this company as a Java Developer, I was deputed to work in a different location to work more closely with our client – British Telecom. I was there for 5 years in total, representing my team and collaborating with other vendors on the same end-to-end project. I gained valuable experiences during this time since British Telecom were a large, traditional company with complex processes. Interacting with a wide range of customer segments and professionals enhanced my skill set, providing me with a deeper understanding of the end-to-end process and how different technologies and people can come together to create success for a project, which really interested me.
After the completion of the project, I returned to my base location and continued to engage in a variety of projects for British Telecom. Over time, I progressed to the role of Team Lead, a position that provided me with valuable insights into efficient project management, timelines, and resource allocation.”
“After several years of working with Java and managing teams, I reached a point where I needed something new. It was during this period that I began exploring the realm of Cloud Technology, and I found it to be highly intriguing. Thankfully, my management was supportive of my transition into a more technical role, allowing me to engage directly with clients and concentrate on implementation. This gave me a hands-on opportunity to delve deeply into digital transformation, where I gained in-depth knowledge about Oracle CPQ.
While in this role, I seized an exciting chance to travel to the UK and collaborate with a client during their development phase. I provided training and contributed to the construction of the project’s next phase, leading up to its successful launch, an experience that was both enjoyable and interesting.
Following my return to India, my wife and I made the decision to relocate to the UK permanently. I had a conversation with the talent manager at Enigen and, fortunately, was offered a position focused on CPQ. This was a stroke of luck for me, given my prior experience in this domain.”
“When I initially joined Enigen, my work primarily revolved around handling small tasks, and not so much on the end-to-end journey. However, as I continued to grow in my role, I started to delve into the various functions of our teams, not just at the task level but throughout the entire journey. I’ve embraced a continuous learning approach, especially in understanding the ever-evolving landscape of technology. In this industry I never think to myself ‘Now I know everything’ but rather continue to gain knowledge and skills, which helps me to stay engaged.
The main reason I enjoy my role at Enigen is because I get to work with different clients, rather than being confined to just one. I work with clients spanning multiple industries, including manufacturing, commodities, and technology resellers, among others, which I find really refreshing.
Certainly, working with a wide range of clients demands adaptability, and it can present challenges. Each customer may have unique preferences and requirements. However, I view this as an enriching opportunity to accumulate experience and knowledge, enhancing my skill set further.”
“From the moment I first interacted with Enigen, the communication was easy which gave me a good impression. They were transparent, approachable, and friendly which made me feel at ease during a significant life transition when I was relocating.
I am glad that mental health is a massive focus here, as I think that is very much needed in all companies. The encouragement of a healthy work-life balance is refreshing to me after coming from somewhere where I worked very long hours with few breaks. I believe Enigen has enhanced my outlook on work life and given me a whole new perspective. This is what stands out at Enigen.”
